Dallas Billington Lead Pastor
Dallas has led and served in church ministry for 37 years.
He first planted a church in Naples, FL in the 1980's. He later returned to Akron, Ohio and served 12 years as pastor of Dallas' home church - which his father also led and grandfather birthed - Akron Baptist Temple. He was grateful to serve thousands of people each week at the Temple.
Dallas then enjoyed a brief time, 1 1/2 years on staff of Calvary Chapel, Ft. Lauderdale. There it was his fervent desire to see the people of Southwest Florida find Jesus Christ as their Savior, so he planted a new church, Community of Hope.
Dallas is now excited to be back in Ohio, for good. He has been praying for and following God's leading to plant a new church in the Akron-Canton area for the past couple of years. It is now time for his prayers to be reality, as God has showed the way for Dallas to begin City Church AC.
You'll often find Dallas at the gym and awake at 2 am. He has been mistaken for a pirate with his golden tooth. Dallas holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Malone College and a Masters from California Graduate School of Theology, Glendale, CA. His life verse is Joshua 1:8-9.
Ernie Kemppel Associate Pastor
Ernie was saved in 1971 under the ministry of Dr. Dallas F. Billington, founder of the Akron Baptist Temple. He began serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ immediately by serving in the choir, bus ministry and visitation. Later, he and his wife Carol became directors of elementary students in the clubs known as Gems and Soldiers of the Cross. He then became one of the Assistant Directors of Sunday School under the leadership of Rev. Bill Lee.
In 1991 he received a degree in Biblical Studies from Liberty University and has studied at Malone College as well. In addition he completed the Evangelism Explosion study and the two-year course, Equipping the Saints.
Ernie became a member of the staff at Akron Baptist Temple as Director of Christian Education and a short time later, he was ordained as a Minister & Associate Pastor. He became Executive Pastor under the leadership of Dallas Billington, the grandson of the founder of the church. Ernie also found it a joy to minister to the seniors group called the Goldenagers.
Circumstances changed and Ernie now finds himself available to pursue his ministry here at City Church AC. He has been praying for God to open a door where he can fulfill his hearts desire and see people come to a saving faith in Jesus Christ.
Ernie and his wife Carol are pleased that God has blessed them and has given them opportunity to minister to the citizens of Akron and Canton through City Church AC. Ernie’s life verse is Is.41:10 & Carol’s is Prov. 3:5 & 6.

Ben AdamsWorship Pastor
Ben has been a Christian nearly all his life, at the very young age of five he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior with his mother at home in their living room. Ben’s parents sacrificed and provided him the opportunity to attend Christian Schools from fifth grade on at Chapel Hill Christian, CVCA and at the former Akron Christian School.
Ben began to sing in church and in grade school on some occasions, then not again until his early twenties when he joined the church choir. After some prompting and encouragement from a few brothers and sisters in the Lord he also began to sing on his own and with others. He then joined a vocal group at church for a couple of years that occasionally traveled to other churches throughout the state. This eventually led to being actively involved on and off again over the past 14 years with several different worship teams at ABT, Highpoint Christian Church and here at City Church.
He and his wife Lorie of 17 years have also served in several other areas of ministry. Shortly after being married they began to work in the Junior High Department at their home Church the Akron Baptist Temple for the next 11 years. During their last few years they were given the privilege to oversee and be the spiritual leaders of the department. They also had the opportunity to join the senior high on a couple of mission trips outside of the country. This was a joyous season of loving the youth and serving alongside many of their lifetime friends. Ben also served for 7 years on the Stewardship/Financial Advisory Board of the church.
For the past 20 plus years Ben has worked in the corporate business world as a Branch Manager for an electrical supply company. Then in the capacity as the Delivery Manager and most recently the Billing Department Manager for Comdoc, a local division of Xerox.
It recently became very clear that God was moving Ben into this next chapter of life by calling him into the ministry full-time. He states that “this is both a humbling and exciting opportunity that the Lord has provided to Lorie and me by allowing us to worship the Lord and to minister to others in so many different ways”. Ben’s life verse is found in Isaiah 55:8, a reminder that Gods ways are so much greater
than our own.
